This new work is about transforming brokeness
This new work is completely made up from broken pieces of art glass. From the beginning slab of glass made in the kiln to the final elements broken away from created forms of lace glass or pulled strings.
Building the base colors from broken glass. This will take about 26 hours in the kiln.
The thick slab of glass is then broken up into workable pieces to create the art work.
My drawing is under the glass and I start to build the glass image from the broken pieces.
Continuing to build the design.
I have built the background and filled in the gaps with more glass before firing in the kiln again.
The pieces are blocked in the kiln to prevent the glass from spreading out. This step will take about 34 hours in the kiln.
The pieces have fused together into one block of glass.
Using a flame I pull thin strands of glass to start building the details.
I will also break up lace glass that I prefired in the kiln and use that for details.
The details are thoughtfully placed before the final firing
